As per the rules of the government of India, every resident of the country must have identification proof. This proof serves as a legitimate document recognized by the government. The Aadhaar card, which first began being issued in January 2009, serves as one such legal document for the citizens of India.
So what is Aadhaar?
It is a verifiable, 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) that works under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
Any individual can get their Aadhaar made by visiting a nearby enrolment centre, banks/post offices, and get themselves registered for free. Once the individual enrolls for the Aadhaar card, they can download the UIDAI Aadhaar by using the enrolment ID, virtual ID, or Aadhar number provided to them by UIDAI.
Once that number is generated, they can easily download e-Aadhar by following the steps given ahead.
Aadhaar card download using Aadhaar Number:
An individual can download Aadhaar using the Aadhaar number by following the below-mentioned steps:
- Visit the official website of UIDAI for the procurement of Aadhaar.
- Click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option from the ‘My Aadhaar’ drop-down menu.
- From the ‘I have’ section, click on the ‘Aadhaar number’ option.
- In the next step, enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number. Click on the option ‘I want a Masked Aadhaar.’
- Enter the captcha verification and click ‘Send on OTP’. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, which will be valid for 30 seconds only.
- Enter the OTP received and complete the steps by clicking on ‘Verify and Download.’
- The system will now download the electronic copy of your Aadhaar.
Aadhaar card download using your virtual enrolment ID (VID):
This method is the latest addition to the UIDAI’s methods to download Aadhaar. To get Aadhaar by your VID, use the following steps:
- Visit the online portal of UIDAI.
- Click on ‘Download Aadhaar.’
- You will see the ‘I Have’ section. From there, click on the ‘VID’ option.
- Enter your 16-digit virtual ID code, full name, pin code, and security code.
- Then click on ‘Send OTP’ to generate OTP to your registered mobile number.
- You can also use the TOTP feature to verify your request.
- Thee-Aadhar will be downloaded to whichever device you are using.
- You can open and access it using the Aadhaar card password.
- The password will be the first four letters of your name in ‘UPPER CASE’ and your year of birth.
- You will have successfully downloaded and opened your Aadhaar using the VID number.
Aadhaar card download using Enrolment Identification number (EID):
If you have not received your Aadhaar card or forgotten your Aadhaar number, you can also download your e-Aadhaar using the enrolment number (EID). You have to follow the steps below:
- Visit the website https://uidai.gov.in/.
- From the ‘My Aadhar’ menu, click the Download Aadhaar option.
- From the ‘I have’ section, click on Enrolment ID or EID.
- The system will redirect your page to https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/.
- In the next step, enter the 14-digit enrolment number, along with the 14-digit date and time value mentioned on the enrolment slip provided to you.
- Now, enter your full name, pin code, and image captcha code.
- Click on the ‘Request OTP’ option to generate an OTP to your registered mobile number.
- Press the ‘Confirm’ option. You will be sent an OTP on your mobile number.
- Enter the received OTP and click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option on the screen.
- This way, you can download an electronic copy of your Aadhaar.
Aadhaar card download using DigiLocker Account:
DigiLocker is a cloud-based program that allows users easy storage, sharing, and verification of documents in digital form. It is a fully online digitization program provided by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
This platform allows users to upload their documents and keep them safe and protected. Using the DigiLocker account also, the users can download a copy of the e-Aadhaar. To do that, you have to proceed with the following steps:
- The first step is to log in to your DigiLocker account by visiting the official website.
- Click on the “Sign In’ button. Then enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number there.
- Click on the ‘Verify’ option to get OTP.
- Enter the OTP, which is sent to your registered mobile number.
- Now click on ‘Verify OTP’.
- You will see an ‘Issued Document’ page appears. You can download your e-Aadhaar by using the ‘Save’ icon.
Aadhaar download through Umang app:
You can also use the Umang app to get a copy of your Aadhaar by following these simple steps:
- Download and open the Umang App.
- You will find an ‘All services’ tab. There click on the Aadhaar Card option.
- Click on the ‘View Aadhaar card from DigiLocker’ option.
- Log in using your DigiLocker account or Aadhaar number.
- Enter the OTP, which is sent to your registered mobile number.
- Click on the ‘Verify OTP’ option.
- Click on the ‘Download’ icon, and you will be able to download an electronic copy of your Aadhaar card.
Using name and date of birth to download e-Aadhaar:
If you have misplaced your Enrolment ID and want to use it to get your e-Aadhaar, you can do so by entering your name, date of birth, and phone number/email. Just proceed with the following steps:
- Visit “https://resident.uidai.gov.in/lost-uideid”. Go to retrieve, lost, or forgotten EID/UID page on UIDAI’s website.
- Select the option for ‘Enrolment Id’.
- Enter your full name, which is given on your Aadhaar card.
- Enter the mobile number given at the time of enrolment or give your email address.
- Enter the captcha verification and select the ‘Send OTP’ option.
- Type the OTP sent to your mobile number/email address.
- You will then be sent your EID on your phone.
- Now use this number and visit the https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov webpage. Follow the steps mentioned earlier under the ‘Aadhaar card download using Enrolment Identification number’.
The Aadhaar card has become an essential document for opening bank accounts, for PDS schemes, for new LPG connections, for EPF transfers (linking Aadhaar with UAN), for taking loans for businesses, etc.
